Sponsor can be a person or an organization that pays to the cost or takes responsibility for the initiation of clinical development and management. It may be a person, pharmaceutical industry, government department, institution or may be a private organization. They do not actually conduct the investigation or research, but they fund the amount used in the research. A clinical trial sponsor plays an important role in determining the viability of the clinical study.

A sponsor responsible for maintaining the quality assurance and control systems with a written Standard of Protocol to make sure that the trials are conducted, and the data is generated, documented and reported according to the protocol. They must make sure that all the rules and regulations are amended during the clinical trial.
