MGS Acquires Denmark’s Knudsen Plast to Expand European Cleanroom and Injection Molding Capabilities

Medtech contract manufacturer MGS has acquired Knudsen Plast A/S, a Denmark-based injection molder with more than 40 years of experience serving medical device OEMs.

The acquisition expands MGS’ cleanroom manufacturing footprint in Europe, adding facilities in Denmark and Slovakia to its global network.

What the Deal Adds?

Knudsen Plast brings:

  • Nearly 100 injection molding machines (25–500 tons)
  • A Class 7 cleanroom in Denmark (described as the largest in the country)
  • A Class 8 cleanroom in Slovakia
  • Assembly and automated production capabilities
  • Tampon printing and ultrasonic welding

For MGS, the deal strengthens its position as a vertically integrated contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) offering:

  • Medical product design and development
  • High-cavitation tooling
  • Automation
  • High-volume precision manufacturing

The combined organization now operates across 13 global locations.

Strategic Rationale

According to MGS President and CEO Paul Manley, the acquisition creates mutual benefits:

  • MGS gains Knudsen Plast’s technical expertise and quality systems.
  • Knudsen Plast customers gain access to MGS’ vertically integrated capabilities.

The stated objective: help healthcare innovators accelerate development timelines, strengthen supply chains, and scale production efficiently.

Continued Expansion in Denmark

The Knudsen Plast acquisition follows two prior Danish deals by MGS:

  • In October 2023, MGS acquired Winther Mould Technology A/S, a tooling specialist with more than five decades of experience.
  • In June 2023, it acquired Technolution, which provides R&D, regulatory, and quality project management services.

The moves signal a deliberate expansion strategy in the Nordic medtech manufacturing ecosystem.

Global Footprint

Headquartered in Germantown, Wisconsin, MGS now employs more than 1,600 people across facilities in:

  • United States
  • Sweden
  • Denmark
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Belgium
  • Mexico
  • Costa Rica

The Knudsen Plast deal further consolidates MGS’ European manufacturing presence at a time when medtech OEMs are prioritizing supply chain resilience, regional manufacturing strength, and cleanroom scalability.

Industry Context

As medical device complexity increases and regulatory scrutiny tightens, OEMs are increasingly seeking CDMO partners capable of integrating tooling, cleanroom molding, automation, and post-molding services under one roof.

With this acquisition, MGS deepens its injection molding and cleanroom capabilities while reinforcing its expansion strategy in Denmark’s established medtech manufacturing cluster.
