Corning launches rabies awareness campaign with Serum Institute and SEWA India on World Rabies Day

Overview

Corning Incorporated, one of the world’s leading innovators in glass, ceramic, and materials science, announced the launch of a nationwide awareness campaign in India on World Rabies Day. The campaign will support the World Health Organization’s (WHO) “Zero by 30” goal of eradicating rabies-related deaths by 2030. Serum Institute of India and Self-Employed Women's Association (SEWA) will help drive the campaign with Corning.

About the Disease: Rabies

  • Rabies is a preventable disease that continues to pose a significant threat to public health, particularly in developing regions like India – and especially in rural areas. 
  • The new campaign will help educate communities about the importance of vaccinating pets, seeking immediate medical attention after animal bites, and the critical importance of vaccines in eliminating the disease.

  • Vaccination is the only way to prevent rabies,” said Dr. Ashish Sahai, additional director, viral vaccines, Serum Institute of India.

  • Specific initiatives will include educational workshops, the distribution of informational materials, and vaccination drives.
