Investigational biologic LMN-201 achieved an 83.3% global cure rate and a six-fold reduction in infection recurrence compared with placebo in the Phase 2 RePreve trial.
Date: October 22, 2026
Company: Lumen Bioscience
Drug Candidate: LMN-201
Therapeutic Area: Infectious Diseases
Clinical Trial Phase: Phase 2
Key Highlights
-
Higher Global Cure Rate: Global cure was achieved in 83.3% of patients receiving LMN-201 (10 of 12), compared with 36.4% in the placebo group (4 of 11).
-
Reduced Infection Recurrence: Recurrence rates were 9.1% with LMN-201 versus 55.6% with placebo, representing an approximately six-fold reduction.
-
Clinical Trial Design: The randomized, double-blind Part B of the Phase 2 RePreve trial included 23 participants receiving LMN-201 or placebo alongside standard antibiotic treatment.
-
Favourable Safety Profile: LMN-201 was well tolerated, with adverse event rates similar to placebo. No drug-related serious adverse events or deaths were reported.
-
Upcoming Data Presentation: Lumen Bioscience planned to present detailed findings at IDWeek 2026 in Washington, D.C.
About LMN-201
LMN-201 is an investigational oral biologic cocktail designed to improve treatment outcomes and reduce recurrence of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). It combines three toxin-binding proteins and an antibacterial enzyme, manufactured using Lumen Bioscience’s proprietary spirulina-based production platform.
The treatment is intended to be administered alongside and following standard antibiotic therapy.
Clinical Significance
The Phase 2 RePreve trial evaluated whether LMN-201 could improve initial treatment outcomes while preventing CDI recurrence.
In Part B, the global cure rate was 47 percentage points higher in the LMN-201 group than in the placebo group. The result met the study’s prespecified Bayesian statistical significance criteria.
LMN-201 also showed a favourable trend in reducing primary treatment failure by more than 50% relative to standard antibiotic treatment alone; however, this secondary endpoint did not reach statistical significance.
About C. difficile Infection
C. difficile infection is a bacterial infection that can cause diarrhoea, inflammation of the colon and potentially serious complications. Recurrence following antibiotic treatment remains a significant clinical challenge, creating a need for therapies that can improve sustained cure rates.
What’s Next?
Lumen Bioscience’s findings support further investigation of LMN-201 as a potential adjunct to standard antibiotic treatment. Additional clinical studies will be needed to confirm its efficacy, safety and potential role in routine CDI management.
